Returning To My Roots
Week 2 had came to an end, and it was as productive as the previous week. In this week I felt like a patriot, as most of the work done surrounded building my countries language. In this week not much problems in achieving my tasks were faced. This week's tasks were to translate sentences for a chat bot from the English language to the Jamaican mass vernacular Patois and, Port and update the Drupal 6 Patwa.org website to Drupal 8.
At the beginning of the week I was given a task to translate the sentences for a chat bot from English to the Jamaican Patois.
Unlike the C-3PO from Star Wars a chat bot is not a physical robot that likes to talk. A chat bot is a software that is like an Artificial Intelligence , it is programmed and trained to talk to the user like a normal person and also to help make some task that involves talking to a human easier. An example of a software like a chat bot are Microsoft Cortana and Apple Siri. The chat bot that I was developing on was one that you could freely talk to like talking to a person. The conversations that I should be converting can be found on the chat bot git lab repository. The conversations were easy to translate but the issue was the files were long with a lot of conversations. In the process of completing the task on time and efficiently i created a web translator that could help me to translate basic words and phrases much easier. After the translator did it work I review the translations and fix grammatical errors it may have created. One major down side to automatic translation was getting the essence of the language. Even though a computer can change over words so that it may look like the language it is not able to make it sound as conversational or fluidic like how the language should be. To fix that problem I read over the sentences that were more conversational than giving data like greetings and change them over manually. The new Patois translations can also be found in the repository.
The next task that was done was the porting of the Drupal 6 'Patwa.org' site to Drupal 8. Although this task was one of my tasks done last year it was given again
. The reason for this was because now the new Drupal 8 has the migration module that was used last year to port the site in its core. This makes porting the site much easier and reliable as it works even better than before. In accomplishing this task, first I need to get the site. I got the files and uploaded it to my local server and import the database. When I tried to open the site on my local server it wasn't able to open. As usual i check everything so that i have not made any errors, but then I realize that the files i had was the complete server. The files all together was 2 Gigabyte. I went in the files and searched for the folder containing the files. When I checked the site files were so much smaller it was like comparing the sun to the earth. Eventually I imported the website to a new Drupal 8 installation. When the porting was finish and i checked on the new site, I saw everything was all over the place, no front page, bad theme, blocks misplaced and the audio files for each content was not uploaded. The disorder was expected but the real issue was that the contents audio files were not playing even when I uploaded them manually. This was due to an audio field module not being installed on the site. When i Installed this module everything starts working well with the audio file. However, most of the issues were solved with the site functionalities so i went on getting the site to look as glorious and even better than before.[caption id="attachment_1185" align="alignnone" width="375"]

This was were I ended for the week. I got back the Patwa.org site up and running on Drupal 8 and also thought a chat bot little of the famous Jamaican Patois. This week ended on a great note and i have learned a lot while contributing to both the development of Jamaica and Develop Digitally.
