Talking to Developer Of Loop Jamaica

GCI Jan 21, 2016

I had interviewed a drupal site developer in my country to find out his views on drupal and creating the site .

Drupal can be found at https://www.drupal.org/ .Drupal is content management software. It's used to make many of the websites and applications you use every day. Drupal has great standard features, like easy content authoring, reliable performance, and excellent security. But what sets it apart is its flexibility; modularity is one of its core principles. Its tools help you build the versatile, structured content that dynamic web experiences need.

Also this is a task which i’m doing for the annual competition call Google code in which is a competition which pre-university students ages 13 to 17 are invited to take part in Google Code-in, our contest introducing young minds to the world of open source. With a wide variety of bite-sized tasks, it’s easy for beginners to jump in and get started no matter what skills you have. Mentors from our participating organizations are available to lend a helping hand as you learn what it’s like to work on an open source project.

The developer which i interviewed name was Varun Baker he is the developer of the website which is called loop Jamaica  @ http://www.loopjamaica.com/. Talking to him was quite interesting  as to hear what he thinks about drupal and to know how good and versatile drupal can be in website building.

The interview was conducted over wattsapp in the night . During the process of the interview i asked the question while he would reply to it giving information about his thoughts due to the question which i asked . Also it was conducted when i was at home as and he was finish with work.

According to the developer the site is a for news.  On the site people would publish news articles and post them, the site is also used in other loop market like for example: Loop Trinidad and Loop Barbados.

How was it while building with drupal?

  • He said that building the site was good, while he was building he was also  learning more about drupal, and he and his group eventually came up with a site looking beautiful and progressive.

  • On the other hand while building the site they came into some difficulties. The main difficulty which was encountered was in the designing face as for they had to figure out how the " back-end " architecture of the site would work with the features and requirements needed.

What he likes and dislike about drupal?

  • He likes drupal because of it awesome functionalities. He likes it because it allows him to adapt to continuous changing needs of the drupal website as it help to integrate and improve the system continuously. Also he likes that you can  learn from other people on the drupal website who had the same problem which post their solutions and also he loves the way how you can write  your own custom module so you can hook into drupal system and implement new functionalities.
  • Otherwise from all of the other things which drupal offer the only thing he dislike is to speak to people who don't like drupal for some very nerdy reasons.

What he thinks about drupal?

  • He thinks druapl is just a great software. It is like vehicles as he said  "if the mission is to get from A to B, there are many vehicles to take.". Which  he thinks the most important part is  getting there in this way. He exclaimed that drupal is just like a ninja bike for him.

Having this discussion with him was very inspiring as to know and see how good drupal can be and to use. Although he had struggles and achievements  while accomplishing this project it eventually  came out looking great and amazing .
